High Density in T30???

#1 Post by emeraldgirl08 » Thu Apr 30, 2009 10:10 am

I am rather embarrassed to admit but I bought a stick of 512 MB RAM about a month and a half ago. I did not know it was a stick of High Density RAM!

I only had 256 mb in my T30 when I purchased it off ebay in March. That wasn't working out for me and money was a big factor at the time. I asked for advice and someone sent me a link to ebay that had a stick for a reasonable price. I trusted the advice and took it.

Today I was contemplating on an addition to my laptop and was looking at just enough RAM to suit my needs. I currently have a stick of 512 and 256 in my T30. I'd like to have a matching set of RAM so I opened up my DIMM cover to access the RAM. The label is on the inside of the stick so I took out the 512 and saw it had 32 X 16 on it's label. I was a little curious so I looked up low and high density.

It appears I have a stick of High Density.

It's too late now to return the RAM and I don't feel like going through the hassle. My question is if I get another matching stick would I see the complete 1 gb???

Don't worry about low or high density in a T30, both will work.
You can even mix'n'match PC2100 and PC2700.
And there's no need for matching RAM modules, as the T30 does not support Dual Channel.
When you are in the market, why not buy a 1GB PC2700 SODIMM?
That would give you 1.5GB now, and (touch wood) if you ever get the RAM slot problem, you would still have 1GB.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Thank you RBS!

I've been busy trying to get my T30 customised with Ibex and have tons of stuff going on in PL now! lol it's even coming down to picking the right fonts and sizes in my Ibex as they default a weird unsavoury one :)

I'm glad the T30 is versatile with RAM. I'm going to go ahead and look for a 1gb stick then!

Have a good day and thanks.
