R51 burner needs to be replaced Suggestions?

My R51 burner needs to be replaced. I would like to get a CD/ DVD read/write combo. Any sugestions on a good performance, compatabile W/ R51 DVD R/RW drive?

I think any of the R series drives below the R400/R500 will work. I don't have the FRU, but you can google for it. A new R series won't work because they've switched to SATA connectors. I'd probably look at one of the newer one because they're faster and some of the old ThinkPad burners than came on the likes of the R51 were slow and of poor quality. I know, I had one in my T42. It was total junk as a burner. This one seems promising. That is unless someone here has one for less, which does on occasion happen. You may wish to hang out for a bit if you're not in a hurry.

Thanks for the reply. Yes the ebay looks promising, I sent a couple of questions to the seller. I will hang for a while an see if any other suggestions come up.

I concur, your suggestion is an excellent one. One of my two T42's also came with the "junk burner," one that I would advise avoiding.

I won one off of eBay IBM 92P6575. It was a Ultrabay Multi-drive DVD+-RW.
