is the x60s supposed to have a drive caddy?

I just bought a used x60s on ebay and the hard drive is just "floating" in the bay. I looked up the manual and it shows that there are supposed to be some rubber rails... yup, I'm missing those. The drive can literally slide around in there. Ok, so I can buy some rails I guess, but it's not clear to me if there is also some sort of thin caddy in there that the drive mounts to. Doesn't look like there's room, but I wanted to ask so I can order all the parts I need at once. Thanks!

There should be a caddy, 4 screws to secure the hard drive to the caddy, and two rubber rails. It might be a little bit of a challenge to remove the drive if it is in there without the caddy but I'm sure you can get it out if you are careful. I'd be very careful with the notebook until I got the caddy and the rubber rails installed.

I have seen these caddies and rubber rails for sale on ebay, and before (at least) it was possible to buy the rubber rails plus the caddy and screws as a complete set.

Great, thanks for the info. I did manage to get the drive out, it was tricky. I'll order the parts off ebay, but in the mean time I wedged some small pieces of foam around the drive to prevent it from moving too much. Not great, but good enough until I get the real parts.

Btw, my last Thinkpad had a 486 33Mhz cpu... this x60s is amazing! Loving it so far.

You should ask the ebay seller to pay for the parts that did not ship with the laptop. They are essential and should have been included. If you haven't already left feedback for the seller, then sending you all the expected parts should be a prerequisite to your giving him/her positive feedback on the sale.

the rails and so called caddy are nothing special m8, if you can get them cheaply whack em in. otherwise i wouldnt mind betting that the bits of foam will suffice -so long as the hdd isnt shaking around at all

For that matter, half the screws in the case are probably also not needed, unless the laptop starts to come apart. If there are any keyboard keys you seldom use, you can probably do ok without those, as well
