Serviced laptop returned without battery or ram

#1 Post by fierylungs » Sat May 02, 2009 1:13 pm

Last Saturday (4/4) after working reliably and flawlessly for almost a year my thinkpad R61 (7732CTO) stopped booting (no sign of life save for the power LED). After an exceptionally fast call to tech support the problem couldn't be resolved and a box was shipped out to me. I got the box, filled out the form (making sure to note my 4gb of ram), boxed it up and shipped it out. My only regret is that I didn't take out the battery as instructed by the included form (DOH!)

Thursday I get the machine back and all seems well. The battery isn't there so I call and the rep I talked to said they would investigate the missing part. I get back to using my machine (which was repaired quickly and works as wonderfully as I remember it.)

Today I'm going into the newly flashed BIOS to tweak some settings (I don't need, want, or use speedstep) and noticed that my ram count was 2048MB. Thinking that was odd I finished my BIOS changes and booted into windows. Both the XP system properties and Belarc Advisor indicated that I had 2048MB of ram in one slot. I call the lenovo support line again and the rep opens a new case but tells me that they can't do anything at the moment because the people in charge of that are only in the office mon-fri.

My question is what should I do beyond call back monday? According to the repair sheet they replaced the motherboard, so I can see how my ram didn't make it back in the machine. I can almost accept having to buy a new battery as I should have taken better care in packaging the machine but as it stands my machine was sent back with half the ram I had installed and I'm tethered to the wall (never mind my trepidation at having a gaping hole on the back of my machine.) I'm more than a little frustrated with the whole lenovo support experience which is funny because the machine itself is easily one of the nicest laptops I've owned.

In short; :help:

Sorry to hear about your service experience. FAQ #5 addresses this point:

Never send anything to EasyServ that isn't part of the problem. Period.

Wow. All I can do is put in a little advertisement here for others for Item #5 in the FAQ which says:
5) Does EasyServ need my HDD to fix my ThinkPad?

Never send anything to EasyServ that isn't part of the problem. Period.
There's a reason that's been in the FAQ here and on the mailing list from day 1.
