Going to be buying a T400 Soon
Well let me just say, 2 or 3 years ago I purchased a T61p (or T60p, can't remember), and the total was something like $2400 Canadian. At the time, Lenovo Canada was in hard times and they just kept pushing my ship date furthur back until I just cancelled the order and got myself a Macbook Pro.
Now that my Macbook Pro is starting to age and now that the Apple Care has expired, I am looking for a new laptop and I have set my sights on the T400. I am amazed at how much the price has gone down, does this mean the quality has gone down as well?
I'm ready to go, ready to buy this instant, but I can't because I want the WXGA+ LED screen. So I'm wondering when those will become available? I called Lenovo and the person said that they didn't know either, it's just whenever they order more...quite a bleak answer.
Does anyone know?

The quality is still excellent! I'm waiting for the right discount to pick up a T500 to replace my T43
I just read an interesting article over at toms hardware about how 16:10 (1440x900) displays are being phased out for notebooks... So it probably means that the price of 16:10 displays will increase:( It may also mean that production is slower on the screen you're looking for?
Seriously, do they think all people do on laptops is watch DVD's!!?!

Phasing out 1400x900? What? That has got to be one huge mistake.
That means there will be more 1280x800 (eww) and then a 1680x1050? THat's a pretty huge jump.

Re: Going to be buying a T400 Soon
There's absolutely nothing wrong with 1280x800 on a Thinkpad T400. As a matter of fact, I prefer that size of screen. It's perfectly readable. Yeah, you don't get as much real estate as a 1440x900 screen. But for me, that's no big deal. I'm a writer, and 1280x800 makes things much easier to read on a 14.1" screen. At least for me it does. Unfortunately, you'll always find those folks who are set in their ways (eww), and anything different is just not cool to them. My advice is to buy what works for you. After all, you're the one who's going to be using it.
Re: Going to be buying a T400 Soon
If they were to phase out 16:10 that would mean 1280x800 would go also (its 16:10).
The result would be weird TV like dimensions such as 1366x768 or 1920x1080 which are both 16:9

Re: Going to be buying a T400 Soon
Based on all I've read 16:10 is out, being replaced by 16:9 advertised as the ideal format for movies. Unfortunately for those of us that use computers for work & other income generating purposes, we will be working on displays designed for entertainment. Just goes to show where all the influence comes from.

Re: Going to be buying a T400 Soon
And 16:9 isn't even the ideal for movies. Maybe it's ideal for TV broadcasts, since most channels and shows migrate to 16:9. But cinema movies are wider (~2.35:1).

2.35:1 on a computer is too far.dr_st wrote:And 16:9 isn't even the ideal for movies. Maybe it's ideal for TV broadcasts, since most channels and shows migrate to 16:9. But cinema movies are wider (~2.35:1).

Re: Going to be buying a T400 Soon
The "technical reason" for changing to 16:9 is the international standard for HDTV, therefore the display manufacturers have migrated this aspect ratio to notebook computers. It's the marketing pitch that "it's better for movies" that is being pushed out to consumers.dr_st wrote:And 16:9 isn't even the ideal for movies. Maybe it's ideal for TV broadcasts.
