X60 replacement lcd

hi there folks

so i've been a lurker here for ages but this is my first post. love the forum you guys all deserve a big pat on the back! its a wonderful resource. anyway, just thought i'd post up my recent lcd replacement story as it might help some folks out there.

a few months back the oem boe hydis panel in my 1709-7HU started its slow decline firstly i had the flickering screen problems others in laptopland have experienced. soon after, what could only be described as a number of "grey patches" or "smudges" appeared. over the space of maybe 3 months these trebbled in quantity, but seemed to be predominantly towards the bottom of the screen (and most annoyingly on the taskbar). by this point i'd also dropped maybe 10-20 pixels and just last week, a multitude of verical bands of dead pixels spread themselves in the middle of the screen. looked pretty cool cos the colours formed an almost perfect rainbow, but unfortunately the screen was now pretty much useless.

it took me about 9 months of living with the poor broken lcd before i cried "enough". (very very broke student syndrome).

i purchased a replacement lcd from a hongkong ebay shop. the seller was "mynbw" and the part number is 13N7096. he was the cheapest on there and shipping took 4 days (over a weekend) to me here in australia. nice

whats even nicer is that, while i'm still just coming to terms with a completely blemish free display, the samsung-manufactured derivative of the x60 lcd is definately a much nicer display. it is certainly brighter (about equivalent at 6/7 to the boe hydis 13n7094 maxed out to my eyes) and it seems much crisper. at this stage, i cannot guarantee that it isn't just my perception being skewed by the fact that i can see everythingxors!!11!1!11 but i will have it side by side a boe hydis x60 when i bump into my friend with the same machine as mine. i'll take photos if there is any difference.

the swap wasn't too difficult anyone with any technical aptitude could do it. its a bit fiddly here and there, but if you were hesitating, don't fret just do it. don't put yourself through the pain of a dying screen . all around i'm again in love with my thinkpad.
