How to make bootable ISO from hidden partition ?

#1 Post by Wiking » Tue May 05, 2009 1:50 pm

Hi
I have T60 with hidden partition (who not  ).
I want to make from this hidden partition a bootable ISO file and then may be do a bootable DVD from this partition.
How can I do it ?
*I also have a R32 and want to do the same thing with it.

Thank you
Lior

I haven't done it, or know all the details, but I believe it could be done by installing GRUB and using the following information for the /boot/grub/menu.lst file.

Here is a Google cached page from Thinkwiki.org (thinkwiki appears offline ATM): Rescue and Recovery

I don't think you can do this easily but an alternative is to create a set of recovery CDs from the ThinkVantage software (the recovery CDs basically create the recovery partition on your hard drive and then install everything from the recovery partition).

@OP: Take a look at BartPE. I´m not very sure what exactly you are trying to accomplish, but the link should include most information you might need. It´s also possible to create something similar with Linux as GomJabbar has already mentioned, but again it depends on its purpose I guess. What do you need it for? And, BTW, I don´t have a hidden partition, I wiped it out long time ago, I don´t even use the HD anymore it was on :)

Thank you for suggestions.
I want to make a exact copy of my hidden partition. Why ? to have a backup DVD if somehow my hidden partition will not exist anymore.
there are any programs that will let my see the hidden partition and copy it ?

You can clone it successfully to another hard drive.

That's what the T60 ThinkVantage "Create Recovery CDs/DVDs" program is for. If someone has already done this you can re-set the counter (you are technically only supposed to make 1 copy of the CDs) by recovering your computer back to its factory settings from the HDD recovery partition and burning a new set of recovery CDs. You may need to resort to one of the methods above for the R32 as this doesn't have a recovery CD creation program.

So, when I install rescue and recovery and go make the recovery CD's, it will make recovery only from the hidden partition and not the whole HDD ?
If yes, then I can make it with R32 also.

Thank you everyone.
