Windows 7 RC1
Windows 7 RC1
Hi,
I've been trying out Windows 7 on the x300, and it feels faster. There maybe some placebo effect going on, so people who have a fresh install of XP or Vista feel free to chime in.
The biggest improvements I've noticed is sleeping and resume. I had actually grown weary of putting my laptop to sleep because it could take up to 30 seconds to completely resume (resume, login, wait for everything to work), with Windows 7 this has dropped to 10 seconds!
The other big improvement is network browsing which seems to be snappier in browsing computers and switching folders.
What do others think?

Re: Windows 7 RC1
I'am also using Win7RC on my X300. Putting it to sleep is in less than 5 seconds. Return it from sleep in less then 3 seconds.
Putting it in hibernate takes 25 seconds (4GB ram installed), resuming it from scratch to the logon screen takes 35seconds.
Overal performance of Win7RC on the X300 is feels much better than with Vista.

Are you two comparing how it feels to clean installations of Vista/XP?
I agree with how well it works though, it's a lot faster than Vista on many fronts.

Re: Windows 7 RC1
I have a clean install of XP in the mainbay and Win 7 RC1 installed in the ultrabay drive of my W500 running 8GB ram & two identical SLC MemoRight 128GB SSD's. Frankly I expected it to be fast, but it's a rocket. From cold boot to the desktop in a flash. That same test in XP just a bit slower, perhaps 5 ~8 seconds max. Frankly it's so fast I sit there in amazement. Finally a new version of Windows that makes me smile.

I had the same problem. You need to first turn on the bluetooth. It has been described in a previous post. It is in the instruction text on the Hotkey utility on lenovo's support website http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... vu09ww.txtTheBigHunt wrote: The bluetooth dont works. - The command line control for 'Wireless switching hot key (Fn+F5)' feature
It is available to control the wireless radio using the following command;
C:\Program Files\Lenovo\HOTKEY\TpFnF5.exe [PARAMETER]
The following parameters are defined;
/WLON, /WLOFF Turn on/off internal 802.11.
/BTON, /BTOFF Turn on/off internal bluetooth.
/WANON, /WANOFF Turn on/off internal WAN.
/UWBON, /UWBOFF Turn on/off internal UWB.
/ALLON, /ALLOFF Turn on/off any radio at once. "
I run the TpFnF5 /BTON command, then win 7 recoganize the BT device, and somehow magically, I can use the Fn+F5 to display the wireless selection page. good luck.

Re: Windows 7 RC1
I have been running Windows 7 RC1 for several days on an eMachines T1140 desktop computer with the following specs:
1.1GHz Pentium III with 100MHz FSB
512MB PC100 RAM
200GB 7200rpm 8MB buffer HDD
Intel 82810E shared video
Notice that the official system requirements are 1GHz CPU, 1GB RAM, and a much better graphics card. And yet, this eMachines runs fairly fast, almost as fast as XP Pro. I haven't tried Vista on this system but am sure that it would run slower than Win7 RC1. I am holding off buying any more new computers until after the release of Windows 7, so that they will have it preinstalled.
Kudos to Microsoft for finally coming up with a worthy successor to Windows XP.

I found a general install guide on the notebookreview forum.TheBigHunt wrote:Hi

On my second try of installing Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my T400 (2764-CTO), I followed this guide and did not have any problems until I installed the Presentation Director which broke my Fn+F5 hotkey. I uninstalled PD and I was able to use Fn+F5 again.
After completing the "3 priority levels" there was still one device remaining under "Other devices". This ended up being the "Intel(R) Active Management Technology - SQL (COM4)" listed under "Ports (COM & LPT)" in the Device Manager.
I'm noticing the Power Manager battery gauge in the Task Bar takes about 25-30 seconds to appear once logged into the desktop. I can't remember if that was normal when I had Vista Bus x64 installed.
I installed the Productivity Center as well, but nothing happens when I press the blue ThinkVantage button.
On Screen Display appears to be working for me.
Finished installing just now so I haven't noticed any other quirks ...
Oh yeah, Fn+F9 brings up the EZ Eject, but I get the Program Compatibility Assistant prompt with options to Check for solutions online, Run Program, or Cancel - so I just Cancel.

Re: Windows 7 RC1
I installed the W7 RC 1 on my T60. To get back from sleep modus takes more time than it took with vista that I use and like very much. In general w7 feels and acts like vista which surprises me. Its more a vista version 2. There are more or less design changings to the taskbar. W7 is more battery efficient (up to 20 %). What is very great is the dpi settings in w7. If you change this setting, everything is changed, not just the text but the pictures are too.
Otherwise I do not notice any difference. I disabled aero in vista and use w7 with minimal design settings.
