No, it is not normal. My X40 does not do anything like this when turned off.kadf88 wrote:I'm not sure if this is normal or not but when i flip my X40 over (when its off). it makes this slight click, its coming from inside. i'm not quite sure what it is.. is it the HD? is it normal?

Actually then you might want to send yours in for service. Casue all the ones I have seen and heard of do this. It is part of the APS system on the board.

I actually took my sister's X40 apart because the noise was bugging me. It's caused by the release mechanism button for the PCMCIA card.
When you press the button to release/eject a PCMCIA card, the button is attached to a probe that pushed another probe to eject the card. The two probes are free to move a little and tap each other, which is the clicking you hear. It's perfectly benign.

Iam telling you all the ones I have heard about and have come in contact with make this noise when turned off.
mattfromomaha says it's from the PCMCIA slot eject button. A tech at IBM says it is part of the APS so who knows what it is. But again all the ones I have seen do it.
