Thinkpad Warranty Past 5 Years?
I have a T43p which came with a 3 year warranty. I extended it to 5 years, which expires Aug 2010.
Today an onsite service technician came (I do not have onsite service, but they fulfilled a special request.. i.e.. yelling at them about depot's mess-ups for awhile). He said I can extend past 5 years. While on the one hand I think he was full of crap, on the other hand he seemed knowledgeable about this stuff and knew the T43p quite well.
Can I get another couple years out of IBM?

Not that I would want to, but where did you see this? Was it a Lenovo warranty and, if so, what was the product code?archer6 wrote: Yes you can. I have on a couple of my favorite models.

Simply call tech support, they will connect you to the warranty department. Or check the web site.

Re: Thinkpad Warranty Past 5 Years?
Where specifically did you find it? The link just goes to a general warranty site. But no mention anywhere of a warranty upgrade available past 5 years.
sktn77a - how much did it cost past 5 years? Did you get +1 or +2 years? (i.e.. to 6, 7 year warranty)?
One reason I want to keep this warranty is because I think the service might be better on the pre-Lenovo laptops. I'm not sure, but I base this on the fact that the warranty terms changed once Lenovo took it up, and I don't see any reason they would change them for the better, especially given they are Chinese

Re: Thinkpad Warranty Past 5 Years?
Well, I've extended 3 year warranties to 5 years for about $150. Look up the part number for this 2 year warranty extension in this forum.macadamiaman wrote:sktn77a - how much did it cost past 5 years? Did you get +1 or +2 years? (i.e.. to 6, 7 year warranty)?
The warranty provider is the same now for Lenovo and IBM thinkpads. There will be no difference in warranty coverage between the two.macadamiaman wrote:One reason I want to keep this warranty is because I think the service might be better on the pre-Lenovo laptops. Re: Thinkpad Warranty Past 5 Years?
The point which everybody seems to be missing is that macadamiaman wants to extend the warranty not from 3 years to 5, but past 5 years. And this, to the best of my knowledge cannot be done.

Re: Thinkpad Warranty Past 5 Years?
I did not miss the point which is why I asked archer6 how he was able to do this (extend past 5 years) since he said he has done this and ended up with 7 years. I too doubt it is possible....dr_st wrote:The point which everybody seems to be missing is that macadamiaman wants to extend the warranty not from 3 years to 5, but past 5 years. Re: Thinkpad Warranty Past 5 Years?
I recently purchased a 2 year extention for my Thinkpad and it costed me 200 dollars plus tax. I was tempted to go for onsite, but been told over the phone it's not worth it since I live in a Metropolitan area . My warranty is now extented till August of 2011 and have a little more life on my IBM Thinkpad

So, is 20011 five years in total or more?

Re: Thinkpad Warranty Past 5 Years?
That would be 5 years in total, making it the max of how many years one could put on a Thinkpad. I've asked my sales rep about getting possibly a 3 year extension, but the furthest I could go is 2 which is fine by me. I know Monday (Today) I’ll have to take mine in to see if they can somehow correct the heating problem. Has anybody brought their T43/P models in for heating problems and had success of getting the issue resolved?sktn77a wrote:So, is 20011 five years in total or more?

Yes, more than once. Normally they'll swap the fan, but the last time I've had it done the board was replaced.

Re: Thinkpad Warranty Past 5 Years?
When IBM/Lenovo replaced the board did it resolve the heating/noise issue? I know mine runs a tad hot, but that fan noise drives me up a wall with the constant heavy air breathing (Totally defeats the purpose of the in built microphone as it can pick up the blowing sounds. Some will tell me my laptop can't stop farting heheh ). I'll keep you posted what type of repairs were required to restore my T43p from a rocket ship to a laptop.ajkula66 wrote:@Springdale:
