Error 0210: stuck key xx Scan Codes anyone?

#1 Post by RealBlackStuff » Fri May 08, 2009 11:25 am

I just got an Error 0210: stuck key 33 on one of my T23 keyboards.
Looking up the scan codes for this key, I've come up with different interpretations!
Nobody seems to know the proper key codes!
One scan code says: 33 = H, another 33 = 2, another 33 = D
Confusing, if nothing else!
Anybody have the REAL Thinkpad keyboard scan codes?

As it turned out, there was a piece of fluff under the <, key, way off the grid from the mentioned 33!
Cleaned that up, and all is well for the moment.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

I was curious so I found this page and it shows the right key you mentioned. Hopefully this is acurate, I have seen Ray's page for the 600 series and thought it was close enough to T series to reference. Maybe I could test with my R series???

I tested a couple of random keys on my T23 and they agree with the page that vanaya found; good detective work! I looked at my 600 page and it's a totally different scancode system. I was going to generate one for the T23 in the same table format I did for the 600 but maybe it's not needed (as long as the win.tue.nl site stays up).

Thanks Ray, I didn't notice how much difference there is between them. I will test the R series over the w/e and post some results for future reference.

Okay, here's the charts for the T23 keyboard:

http://www.kawakami-ca.com/ibm_t2x/0210_errors/

I'm assuming that any of the T23 BIOS versions will throw the same error code. I haven't yet tried to verify this information with my T21 or T22 systems, so for now, assume that it's only valid for the T23.

Of particular note: There are several keys, which if stuck at turn on, will result in the system freezing at the IBM splash screen. I let the system sit for at least two minutes and it did not do anything other than sit at that display. So, I would recommend that any "does not boot", "fails to POST", or "freezes at the splash screen" symptom, include removing/replacing the keyboard as part of the diagnosis. If one has a docking station/port replicator, the system can be mounted to that and powered up using the button on the dock/port rep.

Very nice Ray, I will try and duplicate your method and send you the info. That way you can make look nice and host it. Not sure how to get the little pic in the corner, but pm me some info and I'll try it out.

Nice work, gentlemen!
The 'stuck' key was on a UK keyboard, but since the T23 had not booted yet,
BIOS still thought it was a US keyboard.

Just to update, the error codes for the R32 and possibly the Rx series (My R40 is not availble to verify) uses this same codes/table. Anyone needing to reference could use Ray's link above.
