"Power off display" problem

#1 Post by nokiakato » Fri May 08, 2009 7:25 pm

Hello. Since I want to minimize power consumption of my T61p, I often use "Power off display" function in the "Choose Power Scheme" (Fn + F3) when I leave the computer even for a short while. It used to work fine before, but in the last few weeks the display that had been turned off would resume by itself after about a minute, even though I didn't touch the computer. Similar thing happened before when using the Windows' Stand By function. It would resume after a few minutes, but I was able to resolve it by going to Device Manager > Network adapters > Power Management > unchecking Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby. I suspect the same thing (always-on network connection) is causing the problem on the display's resuming, but I am not sure what I can do this time or if there is another cause. I would appreciate your help!

I've had this problem before, and, in my limited experience, it seems to have always been some running program (usually some messenger like yahoo or msn) causing the screen to light up again. Whenever I have a hunch that some program is causing this to happen, I'll turn off the programs one at a time until it stops happening, and usually I find the culprit. Another thing I've had happen a couple of times is that the power cords connecting the TP and its power supply to the wall outlet are slightly loose or not connected all the way at any of the various points. When that's the case, it doesn't take much to unknowingly toggle the computer back and forth between battery and AC power thereby causing the screen to light up every time that happens. Usually it's a case of unwittingly disturbing the cords or the unit ever so slightly by bumping the table or moving on the bed where the unit is situated. Just a few thoughts ...
