X40 Wireless Connection Fails @ "Applying Wireless Settings"
X40 Wireless Connection Fails @ "Applying Wireless Settings"
Love my X40!!! Was doing fine... Then it stopped connecting to my wireless router. Other laptop, a R51e, connects no problem.
I'm able to turn it on and see available wireless routers in the ThinkVantage Access Connections display.
I select my secure router and it attempts to connect, I get a progress bar in a pop-up window, but quickly stops at "Applying wireless settings". Same thing for another nearby open wireless router.
Current Driver: Intel Pro/wireless LAN 210 3B Mini PCI Adapter - Intel - 7/13/2006 - Ver. 1.2.4.41
Any comments or suggestions greatly appreciated! Bruce

Re: X40 Wireless Connection Fails @ "Applying Wireless Settings"
Did you install the PROSet software package by running the setup file or you just installed the driver when "Found New Hardware..." dialog box popped up?

It appears that PROSet installed. Didn't get any sign that it finished.

In the Access Connector wireless setup, does it make any difference if you use the Windows Zero utility?

Re: X40 Wireless Connection Fails @ "Applying Wireless Settings"
Not sure what Windows Zero Utility is, but if it is the Windows software for Wireless cofiguration I haven't been able to get that to help.
I was able to find a newer driver dated 8/2/2006 V 1.2.5.37. That hasn't helped.

How long was it working fine? If you mean some long time (months for example), then try uninstalling Access Connections, uninstalling the wireless driver, restarting, reinstalling the wireless driver, and then reinstall Access Connections. After that, restart your router and see if you can connect.
One possibility, given your description, is that the card has failed (hardware error). ... JDH

Re: X40 Wireless Connection Fails @ "Applying Wireless Settings"
Current wireless connection had been great for months...
BUT THINGS ARE LOOKING UP....
Uninstalled: ThinkVantage Access Connections
Uninstalled: ThinkPad Wireless LAN Adapters Software
Wireless card driver is still the same: 1.2.5.37
I can now connect. But it appears the only software available to control the wireless is now the Windows Wireless Network Connection 7 software. It doesnt seem very good. Everytime I refresh I get a different list....
I'm going to reinstall the software I removed and give it a try.
Thanks for your help!!!

Re: X40 Wireless Connection Fails @ "Applying Wireless Settings"
I reinstalled the Access Connect and the wireless worked once. Then stopped working until I uninstalled it.
I'm back up and running now using the WIN XP software.
I would rather use the Thinkpad software to manage my wireless connections. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Bruce

Re: X40 Wireless Connection Fails @ "Applying Wireless Settings"
I cannot vouch for the Intel 2100 wireless NIC. I had one and it never worked properly. On my (now retired) T41, I installed an Atheros card and never looked back. I, too, want to use Access Connections (and I do), but you may have to replace the card for this to be workable. ... JDH
