Ok, so there is an empty mini-PCI, and "something" over on the right by the firewire port, just solder points.
Anyone know what the heck that is?

Yes. Some MBs have a 2nd slot for either WWAN or turbo memory. It sounds like you don't

Yep, I'm in the same boat here, no 2nd mini-PCE Express slot, and no WWAN simcard holder next to the ram.

I believe this will be a very easy mod, with support for the WWAN already in the BIOS, so it should simply be a case of soldering the correct connector-slots to the board. Let me know if you can find some, I need the same

Would be great if I can get rid of this silly (read very impractical) external Telstra USB WWAN modem.

Keep me posted, I will do the same. I had to source the complete top-half of my X60T, and build it up - all working now, except some minor annoyance with the Wacom digitizer - will sort that one out soon I hope.
