What's the right driver for my old T40 WiFi?

#1 Post by John H » Wed May 13, 2009 5:25 pm

I re-installed the WinXP system on my old T40 (which makes a pretty good netbook!) but the wireless doesn't work under XP. I know the hardware is OK because the ubuntu 9.04 partition works fine with everything. I'm using the 9.04 right now, in fact.

I installed the wireless driver that came to hand, but I never get the little antenna icon lit up, and XP doesn't seem to offer any help.

The package I installed for wireless was 77wc39ww.exe, which the txt says is Version 4.1.2.156.

The T40 came with various wifi devices. You'll need to find out which one your laptop came with in order to get the correct driver. Try looking up the seven digit machine code or post it here.

The T40 came with Atheros, Intel or Cisco wireless cards. You need to install the correct driver.

Model # 2376-CU2.

I vaguely remember installing an Atheros comm adapter a couple years ago, but can't remember if that was in the T40 or the T60.

The Ubuntu 9.04 HELP panel tells me:

Intel Corporation 82540EP Gigabit Ethernet Controller (Mobile) (rev 03)
Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter (rev 04)

So I conclude the Atheros went into the T60.

I only need the driver for the ONE program I run that uses Windows XP (when that is replaced by a suitable ubuntu program I will be XP-free!). I need wifi to properly update the XP NET junk.

If your system is a 2373-CU2 with the Intel 2100 3b wireless card then this is the driver you need:

1rwc89ww.exe

It appears you downloaded and installed the IBM/Atheros abg card driver (77wc39ww.exe).

Thanks for the URL.

I think I probably put an Atheros into the T60, applied the right drivers, and then copied the driver collection over to the T40.

I'll install and test later today when I fire up XP.
