Anybody know meaning of error codes 11d and 12d on TP760ED?
Anybody know meaning of error codes 11d and 12d on TP760ED?
I am still hoping to get my Thinkpad 760ED up and running again. (I posted earlier about the boot problems it has: gets just into the boot process and powers down. See earlier post, "760ED serious meltdown!!! Won't boot! Help!") I am wondering if the error codes the machine displays may be the clue to the problem. It has displayed both a code 11d and 12d. Do those sound familiar to anyone?
I've searched the IBM site, but for some reason (too old?) the search function for error codes does not work for my machine. As my funds are limited, rather than purchase a new machine I would really like to get this one up and running again. I still do have the problem of no other bootable device, so can't run any diagnostics myself.
760ED running Windows 98, no CD, no floppy.

Addendum...
I should add that these codes appeared not on the main computer screen but the smaller lcd located at the upper left of the keyboard...

Usually, if you are running your ThinkPad on battery and you put it into standby, the power meter will go from displaying percent remaining (e.g. 85%) to displaying how many days the computer can remain in standby on the battery (e.g. 7d.) When you shut the lid, the two LED's that can see on the top of the ThinkPad, is the one on the right lit?

If you mean the 3 green lights on the outside of the case, one (the middle one) remains on, even when it is powered down and whether or not the AC adaptor is attached. When I try to shut the machine off, it appears not to be shutting off completely, until I remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor. Could my problem have something to do with either standby or hibernation? You'll have to forgive me if these are dumb questions, as I hadn't had my 760 long enough to become thoroughly familiar with all these things.
If you recall from my earlier posts, my computer won't boot. It starts, but then I can hear the HD slow down and it powers off and the screen goes black. Could this indicate something wrong perhaps with the standby file? At what point in the bootup process does it look for the standby file? ...or does it at all?
You had suggested earlier just giving up on this machine, but I keep hoping to get it going, because quite frankly, I cannot afford a new one (medical expenses are getting me right now).

Get the HMM for your system and have a good read in the errors and diagnostics sections.

Hey thanks...
Good idea...thought at first I couldn't access the HMM through the library computer (I have a copy on my thinkpad, which, of course, is useless because it won't boot). Now I've printed out some of the relevant portions (at 10cents a page...ouch!)
I'm only beginning to peruse the info, but I'm still leaning toward some sort of standby/suspend/hibernation problem. Perhaps the new virus program I installed read a new standby/suspend/hibernation file that for some reason the thinkpad generated as a virus, and would not allow it to be written to the HD, hence I can't return to normal usage???
I'm only guessing...does it sound like I might be on the right track??? If so, any ideas on how to return from this mess?
