Hard drive options?

#1 Post by ThinkPad » Mon Jan 31, 2005 7:59 pm

What are my hard drive options on my T-41. Its rather thin so im not sure it will fit a 60-80 gig primary drive. I pulled out the current primary drive which is 33 gigs. I dont want to put the drive in the ultra bay.

Any 2.5 inch 9.5mm IDE notebook drives should work. It doesn't have to be from IBM.

Your drive is probably a 40GB one. Max capacity possible as of today is 100GB. Thinkpads T4x come with 30GB - 80 GB.

Is the 80 gig the same speed as the 40 gig?. Im actually thinking of getting the quicker 60 gig one.

80gig 5400RPM is almost as fast as the 60gig 7200RPM drive..

get one that fits your capacity needs..

don't forget there is a 100gig drive now..
seagate i think..

So you are telling me a 100 GB drive will fit and work fine as the primary drive (not in the ultra bay) ?

So, would you recommend a 80 GB 5400 rpm over 60 GB 7200? Ex: MOMENTUS 5400.2 80GB ATA/100 5400RPM 8MB compared to 60GB TRAVELS 7K60 7200RPM 8MB?

Could you also say something about a 7200 rpm compared to 5400 from the same brand( Travlestar 5K80 to 7K60)? How noticeable is the speed difference? Is it worth the $?

slightly, but not significantly slower over the long haul.... buy according to your storage needs and you will be happy with either one....
