playing videos w/ x21 and 128mb RAM w/ winXP OS

#1 Post by n00b1337 » Mon Jan 31, 2005 8:46 pm

i've been looking around locally for some 144-pin PC100 RAM without much success so i'm stuck playing with my x21 and 128mb RAM for now. playing videos seems to be kind of choppy. wondering how big of a difference it will make once i get my hands on a 256mb stick of RAM? is my RAM holding me back or the 4mb of video memory??

128mb RAM is a definite bottleneck when running XP. 256 should free things up nicely.

I have 196mb in mine and videos play fine, try using a different video player, the ms media player sucks anyways.

Also go into device manager and make sure the ATA controller for your DVD drive (heck, do both of them) is set to DMA mode, if it is on PIO mode you will always get choppy playbacl.
