X31 WIRELESS PROBS'
Hello there. I have an annoying problem with the wireless adaptor card for my X31. Originally, I had a NETGEAR 54mbps card suppled with the laptop. This worked fine - as long as I was no more than 6 feet from the router, AND NOBODY ELSE IN THE HOUSE WAS LOGGED ON! And if I went into my bedroom - FORGET IT! So I thought I'd try another wireless apdaptor, this one is a Linksys (Cisco) again 54mbps config'. Installs fine, and tells me that the connection is excellent, but no internet! My flatmate has a desktop and laptop which both connect without any problems whatsoever. What is the problem?

Hi there, i once had a similar problem with my X31 and Cisco /b wireless adapter. I tried everything but installing new drivers, after that it started working. Check if you have new drivers to install, maybe it would help!

Sounds like the very common software conflict to me. Your new Linksys card wants to use it's installed software, while Windows wants to use its own. Make the choice you want and disable the other (generally by right clicking the appropriate taskbar icon).

Re: X31 WIRELESS PROBS'
In my experience most older machines do not like the extra load of running the wireless applications supplied with the cards. Windows manages wireless fine without these applications or the Thinkpad Access application.
Try uninstalling the application that came with the card and any from previous cards, reboot let windows find the card and if it asks for the driver point it to the .inf file in the CD driver folder. Don't run the setup application.
If it's working but not connecting to the internet try putting your router IP address into the gateway in network TC/IP properties.
