I just successfully installed the 64-bit version of Windows 7 on my x301 last night, here are some tips for anybody who is taking the same path as I did:
1. Installing from usb key, you can use the bootsect executable from the 32-bit windows 7 iso and then dump the contents of the 64-bit windows 7 iso into the key, since you cannot run the bootsect that is in the 64-bit iso on a current 32-bit os.
2. Noticed 2 PCI devices that were not identified by windows, these drivers can be downloaded here:

Thanks to this thread: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=70516
3. Still not sure if the ericcson drivers are working for my AT&T wireless broadband, after installing the drivers i see a whole bunch of these devices under the category of unspecified that should logically appear as just one: ericcson minicard composite device, minicard data modem, minicard device management, minicard gps port, minicard modem, and minicard network adapter.
4. High pitched fan noise encountered while I was using windows vista. After installing windows 7 this noise went away, probably due to slowing down the fans or something.
Anyways, just a few helpful tips from someone who just spent the better part of this morning and last night figuring this out.
X301 - 32-bit Vista Basic to 64-bit Windows 7
Re: X301 - 32-bit Vista Basic to 64-bit Windows 7
did the drivers install properly? i have both x301 and w700 and i could not get them installed. they kept saying it wasn't for this os or some similar msg and ended the install process.
i use win7 rc with no lenovo install drives, all from win7 and other than those 2 devices its working great. i will only install select lenovo utilities, to me it seems much faster without them (even in vista we did a test removing all the lenovo utils and found 20+ less processes and lots more speed), but of course win 7 does seem faster overall as well and has no lenovo additional utils. the only ones i really miss are on screen displays for sound and turning on /off devices and access connections turning off the wireless if you are wired. not sure why windows can't do it.
thanks

yeah the drivers installed just fine for me. did you try running them in compatibility mode? i think i might have run them under vista compatibility mode.
