Can T60p IPS LCD work in an R60e?
Can T60p IPS LCD work in an R60e?
Hi, a forum member currently has a 15" ips lcd from a T60p for sale. Is it possible that this screen would work in an R60e? I know their are some members who have upgraded their screens in R60's to ips. Were the replacement screens from R60's or other sources?.
Anyone feel free to jump in with an opinion.

You should have just asked that forum member
. He probably knows more about R series Thinkpads than anyone on the forum. I think it would work if you use the correct inverter and cable.

I PM'ed the seller, but he hasn't got back yet. As far as the guy's who have made the lcd changes, I didn't know the etiquette of contacting them directly, so I posted this and thought they could comment if they wish.
For the price wanted to the IPS I'm tempted to just do it. The only thing I'm really concerned about is the danger of frying my motherboard. If the LCD doesn't work does it just not show anything, not boot or what.
Thanks for the input.

Re: Can T60p IPS LCD work in an R60e?
Harry, thanks for the nod.
I would think it would on an R60, since another forum member did it. Since the R60 series, the LCD display type is stored on a chip on the display (EDID info), so the same cable is now used across LCD types. I'm pretty sure inverters are the same, too. They were the same in models even before the R60 series. My only concern would be mobo and BIOS support on the R60e. I haven't owned one yet or done the HMM research, so I can't say for sure.
Perhaps another forum member can chime in.

Re: Can T60p IPS LCD work in an R60e?
It was a straight swap in my R60, though mine was a standard R60, not the E like yours. I used the LG screen 42T0325 in mine. If you look at the LCD Service Parts for the R60/R60e, you'll notice they use the same cable and inverter regardless of the screen. If I were guessing, I'd say it'll work. For $40 it seems worth a shot.
