760XL keyboard problem

#1 Post by markweatherill » Sun May 17, 2009 4:07 pm

Hi,

I have a 760XL which had a keyboard problem where some of the keys worked, some didn't, some would work once but not for a second keypress, some would generate two characters.

I took the keyboard off and uncovered the PCB at the bottom. There was a blob of some blue stuff across two pads on the PCB. I scraped it off, replaced the keyboard and now the problem is different:
Some keys work, some dont, but none generate two characters anymore.

Can anyone advise where the problem is likely to lie?

I know that this solution sounds obvious, but have you tried switching out your keyboard with another keyboard of the same make? It could be that there's something internally wrong with the keyboard itself, not just the cables and connector leading to it. There's at least one 760XL keyboard on Ebay.

If that doesn't work, it could be the a problem with the connector on the system board, at which point you have to go looking around for one of those guys and replace it.

Looking at the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the 760 line should hopefully come up with a solution; you can download the manual here

I hope that at least gets you started on the right path, and good luck with your laptop keyboard :thumbs-UP:
