How to change CCFL in an LCD?

We have a T42 with a 15" LCD (P/N 92P6680) that's turned pink and is slowly dying. Other posts in the forum indicate that this indicates a busted CCFL. Well, as luck would have it, I just pulled another 15" LCD (a 92P6679 from an R50) with a functioning CCFL. Since the P/Ns are so close, I am wondering if I can just replace the busted CCFL with the other one, and if so how easy/hard that would be? getting a replacement LCD over here (in Greece) is neither cheap or easy right now...

yes Dear, It is possible to do that. In bad old years it was easier. You have to carefully open the lcd , remove the old tube and put the new tube.
However the lcds these days are pretty tightly packed so be careful when you remove the
packings outside the lcd panel.
Else catch a shop which sells lcd panels.

I think I asked about this in another LCD thread. Is is possible to not only replace the CCFL, but to upgrade it to a brighter one, or add a second somehow? Mine is the one in my sig, however.

Brightness is a function of the inverter also. So no, it is not easy to change brightness. But a new CCF should bring the LCD back to original brightness.

I didn't notice much of a decrease over time. It's the brightness to begin with, which isn't bright at all compared to my XBRITE Vaio. (although if it was very gradual, it may have gotten worse).

I'd like to brighten it up somehow. Recent posts I read about screen upgrades for this size don't seem to be brighter either.

My T42p UXGA Flexview was rated for 200NIT and today only measured to about 135NIT. A 7 years old T23 SXGA+ (non-Flexview) was rated 200NIT and measured today at 100NIT.

What may be more important is the contrast ratio. Measured results show Flexview LCDs may lose brightness over time but they don't lose contrast ratio. I haven't measured non-Flexview LCDs for contrast ratio yet.

Do the lcd spots also degrade over time and so the brightnes of the panel gets a double degradation over time?
