buy the x200s ultrabase?

#1 Post by phr » Tue May 19, 2009 11:29 am

If I order an x200s, should I get the ultrabase? What is it good for? Some things I can think of:

1. Add 2nd HDD -- very useful especially since I will probably put an 80gb ssd into the x200s.

2. DVD drive -- probably won't buy, needs expensive SATA dvd. Would occasionally use if it could accept my pata ultraslimbay drive from my T61. Basically DVD is useless now though (successor to floppy). I don't understand why they put it in the x301.

3. Displayport -- my main question is whether I can use this under Linux without needing closed X drivers. If yes, it is useful.

4. Speakers--I guess these could be sort of useful. Unfortunately there is no SPDIF digital audio like the T61 advanced mini dock.

I have the X4 ultrabase for my X40 and basically never use it, so I'm leaning towards skipping the ultrabase if I buy an x200s.

I have the X200s Ultrabase for the DisplayPort and also for the second battery charger. For portability reasons I have an external Seagate 2.5" USB hard drive and a small external slim USB 2.0 optical drive.
