LCD screen swap

#1 Post by joseph » Wed May 20, 2009 8:32 pm

I'm trying to put an XGA screen from a T42(2378-DUU) onto a T42 SXGA machine(2373-M3U). I did the swap but the 2373-M3U won't boot with the XGA screen. It momentarily power up then shuts off. If I put the cracked SXGA back on then it boots fine. I tried swapping the screen & inverters but no success. Is there something else I need to do to the 2373-M3U to get it to run(boot) with the the XGA screen?
The SXGA machine has a cracked screen and the XGA machine has the GPU solder problem. Is it possible to create a single working machine out of these two T42's?

LCD cables are different between the two. XGA LCD calls for an appropriate cable.

The easiest solution (would have been) to just swap the complete lid from the XGA onto the SXGA machine.

I did exactly that with a xga display replacing an sxga display and have the same problem: the laptop starts for a few seconds and then stops.

Ah, but you forgot to mention that you first tried to install a non-IBM UXGA screen!
By doing so, you probably shorted something on the motherboard.
If the pin-layout on the back of the LCD is only 1 pin off from the IBM-layout, that's enough to make toast of your motherboard.
