Hi all,

I have been told by some one in Microsoft that Windows 7 will be released on the 23 October 2009.
I just wanted to share with you all this info.

Cheers,

Have to say, Windows 7 RC1 is running quite well on my T60 and R52. Being a Technet subscriber I won't spend a nickel for this new operating system, however.

If Microsoft does not offer the final version of Windows 7 for download to subscribers in the not too distant future, I will stick with XP or Server 2008.

Having paid retail for Vista three years ago, I feel a little "burned" by that less than stellar offering, and am withholding my dollars.

Meanwhile, Vista will just stay on the shelf, collecting "digital dust" and will just remain unused.

mgo, most user feedback I've seen thus far shows W7 certainly outshines Vista. I find W7 also outshines XP in SOME regards.

Being you LIKE W7, Vista is on the shelf collecting digital dust and W7 may not be obtainable to you for free, if your license is transferable consider selling Vista -- NOW! Then the monies can be applied toward W7 :D

If, and when, anyone learns of any MS deployment seminars for this (with free copies!), please don't hesitate to post it. ;)

Most of the feedback of that sort I have seen has been from users who hadn't ever tried to seriously engage with Vista.

Windows 7 is a triumph of skunk-works marketing on Microsoft's part, but in reality is simply Vista with new clothes.

Yes and no. W7 tends to run better on older machines than Vista, and I would imagine (since building an OS is not my strong suite) that it would have something to do with the number of processes that initially place themselves in RAM. A fairly slimmed Vista Business 32 on my W500 runs something like 90 processes, and even if I I were to take out most of Lenovo's bloatware I wouldn't be able to go under 70 or so. W7 RC1 with some IBM/Lenovo additions is still under 50. Vista takes 1GB of RAM for the aforementioned processes, where W7 takes about half of that.

On the other side of the coin, W7 feels more like Vista-at least to me-than anything else when it comes to setup and daily use. People who have managed to really master Vista will likely have a ball with W7 when released, if it ends up resembling RC1.

Well said...I concur.
.
Setting aside the specifics of XP, Vista, & Windows 7, the bottom line is Microsoft gets the money one way or another. Technet members pay money to Microsoft just like everyone else. While bashing or complaining about Microsoft may be fashionable or personally satisfying to some, there's no denying their contribution to computing.

After about 9 months of using Vista (and having many many problems with it - BSODs, not turning off, not hibernating, sometimes not turning on, ...) I've tried switching to W7 RC and I'm pleasantly surprised - everything works (WOW! ) and everything runs much faster than before (running on the T400 machine in my sig).
To me, so far, Win7 seems like a patch to WinVista - not much new but it works at last and is as fast as I'd expect such machine to be. But hey, it should be a patch to Vista, not a new expensive box :(

I feel it is very similar to the Win2000 => XP move. IMHO XP should have been a service pack to Win2000 and similarly Windows 7 should have been a service pack for Vista.

Yes, I can confirm this too.
Windows 7100 RC 1 is xx% slower on the video end when installed on the lenovo 3000 N200 T7500 Intel laptop.

I am fairly disappointed about this release, expecting 10% more performance, or "at least" the same as the W7 7000 release.

Interesting to find:
Overclocking the GPU did not make any noticeable difference..!?
Tested this with nTune and ATItools. Somehow performance did not ad more
then 4 to 5%..where around 30 percent is the normal situation in XP, Vista and W7 7000 .
Also lost 2 points on the performance scale.. Interesting :/
Could be an driver thing, but why doesn't it work right now when before( 7000) it did perform nicely.

Working windows is more stable then on Vista( Or should we say W7 delta), some what the same as the 7000 release.
Some buggy stuff remains and gotten worse. Firefox and plugs seem slower in working and starting up.
But the disappearing taskbar still remains an problem..?? Where we could revive it before via the taskbar options, it is no more
possible now. Logging off and on craches the Aero interface... This is an know problem in the MS database too.
Fingerprint seems to appear a little bit faster, but it takes the same till the system comes to an complete rest.
So overall start up performance isn't really faster, just looks that way.

Media Player 12...well it looks stripped down still. They removed the editor from the application, wich was realy the best thing.
The rest is to bug us, being just not what we need.
Removed the calender application, added an revamped calculator..but you can not enlarge it?? Put back some of the games
( why remove them in the first place) and removed the obvious bad ones. Mail is gone, moviemaker ect.. at least in this RC.
Some are available as add-on via Live. Still have to do thorough testing..

I think they are messing with us again, its fair to say that a working version of this OS is in there hands, but
apparently they are skimming it off again. And after the crippled Vista bogus release, they seem to think to know what
minimum they can release on us October. There just setting us up to buy more added software, again. Nothing new I know.
Really sad, because I like Windows still, its just not enough, again. Even the interface can be done in Vista, but this release
is just that little bit more then Vista is/was. But that bugger was severely crippled.

All in all, Windows 7 is an nice progression after XP and Vista, but I really think there isn't much to look forward to,
and pay more the 100$( or €) for. After the crippled Vista, they should do something for us here.
But I haven't found anything I couldn't do in Vista, but most of us don't call this an OS anyway.
From my stand point, XP, Vista and Windows 7 are very close related, considering they market these as new operating systems.
Add to that the fact that thousands of people worked on this one "for a lot of years", the difference is minimal. Atleast from
an user stand point. Most industries will be happy with the added annoyance to the market.

Lets see what the upgrade will cost us,
and what the official release will be like. So fare I am not impressed and after the RC 1 somewhat disappointed.
