Rescue and Recovery 4.2

#1 Post by reid210 » Fri May 22, 2009 6:56 pm

for some reason my R&R hangs while saying "getting system settings" whenever i try to back up. it stays hung up on that screen until i manually exit it. In other words, it wont back up. Helpppppp.

Do you have an anti-virus software running? You might want to try disabling it. I once spent two days trouble shooting an R&R problem, it turned out that the anti-virus software, in that case G-Data, was stopping R&R from operating properly.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it but it still didn't work. Im running AVG 8.5 but even disabling it, when i try to backup to external 260 portable drive, it just says getting settings and stays there forever. Im at wits end and thinking about getting a third-party backup software. any other suggestions would be appreciated.

After much exploring, much anguish and stress, i found that what was stopping my R&R from running backup to external USB drive was the settings in preferences were set for only 4 incremental backups. Once i adjusted that to a higher number, R&R worked like a charm. So to anyone who might encounter R&R hangups or failure to work, load R&R, go to advanced R&R, go to preferences and check that yours are set correctly. This frustrated the heck out of me until i finally figured out the solution. Hope this was helpful.
