T23 Hard Drive Load Cycle Count

#1 Post by TimGS » Sun May 24, 2009 3:46 pm

Hi,

My hard drive's Load Cycle Count on my T23 (bought secondhand just over a year ago) is 939700. This appears from what I have read elsewhere to be very high, and indicative that I should really be getting another hard drive.

Is this the case - should I get another hard drive sooner rather than later - or am I worrying too much :?

(On a related issue, I have installed Ubuntu, but implemented the fix to avoid the aggressive power management issue that appears to plague alot of laptops.)

I'm assuming the drive's pretty old to begin with. If it is an old drive, then you should be prepared for it to fail, via backups at least if not getting a new drive.

Thanks for the reply.

I regularly backup files anyway via Unison file synchronizer to my desktop, but from the sounds of it I need another drive really.

Despite being a relatively old machine, it happily runs a few web browsers, two VMs and the GIMP (I'm a web developer); so as a backup machine, plus occasional use away from home, I won't begrudge it a new hard drive.
