Ctrl+Alt+Del Login problem - Thinkpad T61

#1 Post by rc2007 » Sun May 24, 2009 3:59 pm

I have a Thinkpad T61 running Windows Vista Ultimate.

I want to use the Ctrl+Alt+Del login.

I tried going to netplwiz.exe to do it but the "Require users to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete" check box is grayed out.

I went to gpedit.msc under Local Policies/Security Options to enable the "Do not display last user name" option and disable the "Do not require Ctrl+Alt+Del" option.

If I log off or lock the computer, it will require Ctrl+Alt+Del for the next logon, but then it stops requiring it after that. If I go to gpedit.msc again it shows "Do not require Ctrl+Alt+Del option" as enabled again.

I have Ctrl+Alt+Del working just fine on another non-lenovo computer that is running Windows XP. I do not understand why it is not wanting me to use the Ctrl+Alt+Del login.

Is it something to do with the ThinkVantage software that is causing this?

I got the Ctrl+Alt+Delete login to work by uninstalling the fingerprint software.

I had the latest version of the fingerprint software from the lenovo website installed.

Is there any way to use the fingerprint reader and also have the Ctrl+Alt+Delete login? I don't understand why you can't have the Ctrl+Alt+Delete login with the fingerprint software.

This sounds really silly, and let me apologize in advance if it's either laughably obvious or irrelevant. OK?

My wife called me a couple weeks ago about her Vista Ultimate X61, saying the fingerprint reader was having a bad day and she simply couldn't get into her machine. I confidently told her to simply hit CTRL-ALT-DELETE and enter the info manually, just like you did. She claimed it didn't work, as you are asserting. I figured she just didn't know how to CTRL-ALT-DELETE.

To my surprise, when I got home, she was right. You don't hit CTRL-ALT-DELETE; you merely doubleclick the account icon and up comes the traditional textual logon dialog.
