Help..T500 not booting..

#1 Post by dgx_man » Mon May 25, 2009 2:38 am

Hi,
My T 500 was bought 4 m back.

Config : Discreet graphics, P8600, LED backlit screen.
windows 7 RC and was on AC power. ( batt 35% charged)

2 days back while a spreadsheetw as open, I had to be away from my desk . when I returned about 3 hrs later, the laptop was off with just the battery and ac plugged in indicators on. I thought it was hibernating..

But I just could not get it to start again... there was no display either.

When the power button is switched on, the HDD, caps lock num lock light comes on and goes off in 2 seconds,, it dosent boot and has no display.

I tried removing the battery and puttig it on again.. no relief.
I tried to boot off the recovery cd.. also

I tried to switch it on today, same result. But the battery indicator was blinking ( showing it was below 10 % charge).

Please help me out.
Is the laptop in hibernation ? or is it a hardware failure?

Is there a way to hard reset it ?

It had updated to the latest BIOS about 5 days back and was running ATi driver ( windows 7 ) from the ATI website)

TIA

Remove power, remove the battery, hold down the power button for 10 repetitions, then hold it down steady for 30 seconds. Connect AC only (no battery) and try to power up.

I haven't heard that suggestion before. What does working over the power button like that do?

If laptop is plugged in and battery indicator is flashing signalling below 10% could be that charger does not supply power to charge battery meaning a break inside the power cord. try removing battery and using just a/c see if lights light up if not your power cord is faulty. If it does light up in similar fashion could be a mobo problem. If you hear any beeps count them and please post for further diagnosis

The adapter is supplying power. i tried switching on the laptop on ac power without the battery; it was switching on.. but not booting.

Even when I switch it off and check it after an hour or 2 later the top left corner and the battery feels mild warmth.

i am confused as to why the battery is being drained even while the machine is off.

No beeps are heard. Capslock numlock and hdd lights come on and go off one by one and finally the battery, ac and power on indicators remain on.
