R60 Which Ultrabay Which HardDrive

#1 Post by teladoy » Mon May 25, 2009 9:56 am

4 Questions:

1) Using UltraBay for hot swaping is save that is why Lenovo use ultrabays?
2) For the R60 with sata internal wich ultrabay is requirer (enhanced or other too?)
3) And what hard drive goes in the ultrabay IDE or SATA?
4) Will I need drivers after set this up?

I know lots of question sorry yet a bit confuse for what I am reading on the wikis.

Thank you

Ultrabays do support hot swapping. Either slim or enhanced drives fit fine. I have only ever seen slim 2nd HD adapters. HD adapters connect tp an IDE port, but come in SATA or PATA models. The SATA one has a PATA-SATA bridge built into it. No drivers needed

Here's an adapter with an enhanced 13mm faceplace (IDE connection).

Here's the SATA version -

If you buy a regular Ultrabay slim adapter it will work, but there will be a gap around the faceplate.

Fred, I have not. I just found them randomly one day when another member posted a similar product offered by the same seller on EBay.

The bezel looks a little goofy. Interestingly, the seller offers hard drive adapters and eyeglasses. An odd combination wouldn't you say?

The other choice is local mean US:

Now I ask him if it will fit in R60 and he told me that if it not fit or work he will return but this is the slim maybe if you ask you may get more info in regard and if he has the R6X.

The one for the T60, which will have a gap in it. I've had one before for my 14" R60. While the gap is noticeable, it's not too bad. It's be nice if Lenovo made a separate one for the machines like the R and Z, which use the thicker drives.

I see, well all of them come from china anyway and they are mark IBM so is hard to know which one are the real I believe that the chipper you get this is the better.
I plan to spend $65 (include the HD) and I don't mind waiting so I will shop still some more.
Good luck to you and thanks to all
