Best way to receive payment for laptop?

#1 Post by postdiction » Mon May 25, 2009 6:15 pm

Hi,
I am trying to sell a macbook pro on craigslist and was wondering what is the safest way of accepting a payment.

This makes me nervous because this laptop will be $1000+ so it is a lot of money.

I know cash would be the safest however what other options are there?

Would USPS money order be safe? Are there ways to fake USPS money orders?
I would like to avoid fees if possible so paypal is out since I think you can only accept $500 before they force you to upgrade.

If i accept cash should I only accept it in $20 bills?

What have your experiences been selling high ticket items?

Thanks

Never accept PayPal for a face-to-face transaction since the payment can be reversed.

New USPS MOs are difficult to replicate, and they're a pretty safe method of payment.

Cash is king. If you're accepting larger bills make sure that you get the buyer's name and driver's license number.

Good luck.

You and living in Chicago: make sure you take a "heavy" with you, to protect the wad of dough you'll be getting!
Oh yeah, go buy one of those pens to test bank notes with. Better safe than sorry!
