How much upgrade freedom do I have under warranty?

#1 Post by cirthix » Wed May 27, 2009 11:04 am

How much can I do to the system without voiding warranty?

Description:
This product has a four year limited warranty which includes a ThinkPlus warranty upgrade. This product is entitled to parts and labor and is entitled to EZServ/Depot service. This machine is also entitled to the Thinkpad Protection Service. Customers may call their local HelpCenter for more information.

Is swapping the LCD ok? Processor? I'd expct drives and ram to be freely changeable. I'd like to swap the mobo too, but that's probably not allowed heh.

Technically, if the upgraded part is not a CRU, they can deny future warranty coverage. In practise, though, I've sent in a T42 with the CPU upgraded from a 1.7 to a 2.0 (definitely not a CRU) and they either didn't notice or didn't care.

Good thing then that the problem wasn't with the motherboard. Otherwise they might have replaced it with a new mobo with only a 1.7GHz CPU ;)
