Hi everyone,
I have two problems:
1) GPU in my ThinkPad* is overheating causing huge picture noise. Simple solution which makes noise to disappear is to reduce the clock of the GPU. While working in Windows I use Notebook Hardware Control to underclock the GPU down to 110 MHz (default clock is 250 MHz).
I would be very grateful if someone would help me and explain me how to do that in linux (underclock the GPU)? Is there any utility like NHC with that feature?
2) How to control CPU fan speed and monitor temperatures of CPU, GPU, HDD etc.?
In Windows I use TPFanControl to monitor temperatures and to set fan speed manually. Is there any linux utility that can do the same?

Underclocking the GPU and fan control
Re: Underclocking the GPU and fan control
Hi Aralas,
Welcome to the forum!
Cannot answer question #1 but regarding #2:
I too have a T41 and have a fan control program running. Have found it difficult to setup, but it is doable in recent ubuntu (deb) distros. In my last 'upgrade' decided to try Linux Mint 7 (based on ubuntu 9.04). Really liked it but found no matter what, could not install a auto fan control (can control it manually however). Therefore Mint was removed. Don't know if fan control will work with Jaunty (9.04).
Currently using T41 and X31, Intrepid (ubuntu v8.10) and tp-fancontrol_0.82_all.deb. Works real nice (silence is golden)! If you try it and need help installing or setting up, let us know.
BTW: if you use Mint 7 or Jaunty and get the auto fan control working, please let us know how you did it. I spent many hours trying to get it to work with no success!

Re: Underclocking the GPU and fan control
Use rovclock or aticonfig for the gpu clock (they're command-line tools). aticonfig comes with the binary ati drivers.
