which video choice in T43 bios?

#1 Post by bonjonno » Thu May 28, 2009 3:35 pm

My T43 bios offers for boot display device:
ThinkPad (LCD)
Analog (VGA)
Both

It's always been set to ThinkPad(LCD). But a recent problem with a friend's laptop (different brand) where the screen seems to have died, yields no picture when a monitor is plugged into the VGA. To insure I have an out just in case my LCD dies, I'd like to change my BIOS to Both. But I'm wondering if this kicks in more of the video circuit and uses more juice. Anyone know? It uses the standard Intel 915GM chip.

Don't know if your system would significantly draw any more power with the display setting set to "both" in BIOS. However, you can always use the Fn+F7 key combination to switch the video signal between the LCD and external VGA port. That will work any time you want, although if you have the IBM Presentation Manager utility installed, it can be next to impossible to figure out how to select the menu options when you can't see them :) .

Thanks. Gotta love the Fn keys.
