Anyone do T60P backlight replacements?

#1 Post by Oliver26n » Fri May 29, 2009 10:44 pm

My well-loved t60p's backlight is pretty dim, especially compared to my new Dell M6400. I was wondering if anyone on the forum did replacements for a fee?

If your machine is out of warranty, contact forum member jamiphar (James) who offers this type of service. I've been extremely pleased with several LCDs he has done for me.

It's still under warranty, and I was going to extend it another year, but I didn't know that they would replace a backlight merely because it was dim?

They will if you complain loudly enough. You might have to send it in more than once, but persistance is the key to get it done in my experience.

BTW, they don't replace the CCFL, but swap the entire LCD.

I second George.

You don't have anything to worry about. At least until the end of June if I remember correctly.

Has the brightness significantly dimmed since you received it?

Hey Brad, there you are. Yep, it's still under warranty until June sometime, but I balk at arguing with Lenovo or being without it for weeks. It's just a little dimmer, not much, but you know all these new laptops (like the Dell I bought) have so much brighter screens by default that one can't help but notice. I plan on keeping it a good time longer, so I want the screen to look good for at least another year or two. I travel a lot, and the M6400 simply won't do on a roadtrip.

Where did I go?

Maybe you should consider extending your warranty if you are interested in up to two more years out of your T60p.

My suggestion is not to have the backlight replaced if you just want a little brighter screen. I have never seen a screen with a backlight replaced that looks even almost as good as a new screen.

Is that why ajkula66 was saying that warranty service actually replaces the whole screen? So it would really only make sense to pester lenovo until they did the work?

Oh, and Brad, just a figure of speech. I hadn't visited the forum in a while and lost touch with you. I am definitely planning to extend the warranty. The T60p is surely the finest machine I've ever had. The Dell is already having issues. Squeaky hinges and touchpad niggles on a $2800 laptop!!!!! Faster than the Lenovo, but certainly not as refined. Should have ponied up for a W700!

Although I'd beg to differ with richk when it comes to what LCDs with replaced backlights can look like, we can leave that for now as a purely academic discussion...

I've just received my T60p back, which had been sent out for a dim LCD with a small piece of hair in it. Ez Serv replaced it within three days.

So, it pays to pester them...

All right, then off to the shop it goes. Thanks for everyone's input! Btw ajkula66, looks like you have a few flexviews under your wing. Nothing else like them, I'd say.
