Upgrading from a T23 to a T30

#1 Post by newyorkpaulie » Sat May 30, 2009 7:57 am

If I upgrade to a T30 what are the diffs/similarities of the two models? Also, does this move make sense, like is it worth the work and expense? I would be interested in hearing your thoughts. I believe I can swap hard drives, but I'm not sure about the memory sticks. I've seen some good ebaY prices lately so I'm getting hungry again.

Memory is different
The drivers on the HDD are diffenret
All of the boltons can be swapped, liked wireless cards and dvd/cd drives (ultrabay 2000)
The case and screen are different
As well as almost doubling the CPU speed you swap to a P4 which makes a difference

I found it a very easy swap
Took a bare bones and worked my way over
Now I have 4 or 5 T30's
The one Im on now runs ubuntu out of the box flawlessly

The T30 is almost half a pount heavier than the T23. Make sure that's not a problem for you.
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)
Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)

What about screen resolution? I got spoiled by having a couple of 1400x1050's.

Most T30s are XGA, only a few came with SXGA+ (1400x1050).
I only sold an SXGA+ T30 the other day. They are quite to very rare.
But if you can find the SXGA+ LCD/cable/inverter for it, you can upgrade any T30.

You can also use the (72W) AC adapter of a T23 on a T30.
If you are going for one, look for the 2366-8xx or 2366-9xx Types, they have the higher standard equipment.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
