X60 Tablet - Yellow-ish colors, how can I fix this?
X60 Tablet - Yellow-ish colors, how can I fix this?
I'm using a X60 Tablet with a Multitouch screen, and I'm finding the colors to be incredibly yellow-ish and warm. Even after using a hardware color calibration device, the improvements are minimal, at best. It's bad to the point where I can't even reliably do photo-editting work on the laptop while on the go (I have to use an external monitor), since I know that the colors aren't true to what most other desktop LCD displays see. Does my LCD screen need replacing, or is there some other way to get more authentic looking colors from the screen?
As well, I noticed that the color reproduction on the X60 Tablet's screen is even worse than that of my Z60t (which produces more neutral colors).

don't quote me on this, but i think i remember reading somewhere that yellow may develop on ips/affs screens as they age/or die
something along those lines so replace?
though unless it's always been like that, then i don't know

That may be the case. Another possibility is that the passive digitizer layer on the front of the screen makes the screen not as clear as the non-touch version.eatbuckshot wrote:don't quote me on this, but i think i remember reading somewhere that yellow may develop on ips/affs screens as they age/or die

Yes, the multitouch display is on the yellowish side. Not sure why your hardware calibration wouldn't be able to compensate for it though. I've been able to calibrate mine to 6500K, L* in the past.
The white point adjustment dims the display quite a bit though, almost as much as lowering the backlight by one step. I opted to keep the natural white point (which is on the warm side), and just calibrate for a linear response, which is good enough for my purposes. Your eyes will adjust to the white point anyway, as long as you're not comparing it directly to another display or light source.
The package I used was Coloreyes Display Pro, if that helps.

A bump as I have the same problem here on the X61T I just got off of eBay, the screen is very yellow compared to my X31's screen. Besides it's significantly less bright, even on setting 15 (max) and my X31's screen is 5+ years old!
Has anyone tried to get a yellowish screen like that changed under warranty ?

If the machine has warranty they will replace it 100%. I've done it many times.GpsPasSion wrote:A bump as I have the same problem here on the X61T I just got off of eBay, the screen is very yellow compared to my X31's screen. Re: X60 Tablet - Yellow-ish colors, how can I fix this?
Thanks, yes it's still under warranty so I'll give them a call. Question is whether the screen is like that by design (I doubt it since original buyer would have certainly been annoyed) but I need to send it in for a "roaring" fan so they can see if the screen needs to be changed too.
Among the many posts I read when I was looking into upgrading my X31 I saw mentions of IPS screens going dim and yellow on people, maybe here http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 55&start=0 - not sure if the XGA screen on the x61 tablet is IPS though...
Maybe I should have gone with an x61s but it was hard to pass on the Tablet features

I called them and it sounds like they're willing to fix the fan and the screen, that's nice of them !
Here is a picture showing the difference between my x61t and x31, does it look normal/abnormal ?

Like you already said yourself, green / yellow tint on old IPS panels in X60/X61 tablets is a VERY common problem. I've seen over 10 which suffered from this problem.
It's definitely not normal.

Yes, it shows the age of my x31 screen too!
I guess it could still be a tad brighter, I think I read that the brightness on the X61 was 150 nits (?) vs 200 nits on the x200, so Lenovo "listened"

Some: 12.1" (307mm) XGA (1024x768) TFT color / 4:3 / 185 nits / 170° viewingGpsPasSion wrote:Yes, it shows the age of my x31 screen too!

Some: 12.1" (307mm) SXGA+ (1400x1050) TFT color / 4:3 / 180 nits / 170° viewing
Touch: 12.1" (307mm) XGA (1024x768) TFT color / 4:3 / 150 nits / 170° viewing
So unless yours is the MT version, it should be 180 nits.
My X201 tablet has the 400 nit screen - it BURNS LOL.

Re: X60 Tablet - Yellow-ish colors, how can I fix this?
Excellent data, is there a summary post somewhere with the brightness of all the Thinkpads?
I take it it's data for the X61 ? I have the X61T with XGA so it does seem it's 150 nits.
400 nits must be amazing! Pretty sure it's not set to max. That's the thing with my X61T, even with the new screen it has to be in 15/Max at all times, there is no "margin".
