T42p fan problem

#1 Post by Oliver26n » Thu Jun 04, 2009 12:30 am

My sister has a T42p I purchased for her. About two months back, it refused to boot with a "fan error" message. I purchased a refurb fan, installed it. It ran for several hours and then gave us the "fan error" message again. Took fan out, sent it to merchant for DOA replacement. They sent another one back, which I installed. This time, laptop went straight to the "fan error" message. It boots if I hit escape, but the cpu runs in the mid 60's, and fan doesn't report any rotation with tpfancontrol, and won't respond to manual fan speed control. I am assuming the fan is good, but the motherboard may be bad. Ideas?

Thanks for the link, but it looks hopeless. Looks like these fuses are all SMT soldered (I certainly can't solder a tiny SMT component)? If that's so, I think I might have a t42p for sale now :(

Most folks just solder a new fuse right over the old one.

If the first replacement ran "several hours", it sounds like there is a circuit problem thart is causing the fuse to blow. I doubt replacing the fuse will help.

I dunno. Whatever the problem is, I'm done with it. I'm putting it up for sale in the marketplace section.
