X41 Battery problem
X41 Battery problem
Hello everyone. Nice forum you have here.
I just bought a X41 non-tablet (type 2525) and I have problems with the battery. The battery dosen't charge and the led on the laptop is flashing continuously. I've tryed both docked and undocked and it is the same problem. As soon as I unplug it the laptop dies after a few seconds.
Is there any remedy for this or just a new battery?

Re: X41 Battery problem
The symptoms are indicative of a dead battery. Try a new one.
Re: X41 Battery problem
Thank you for your quick answer.
Now what battery should I buy? Can anyone tell me how much time can run each type of battery (on normal use internet browsing and text editing). I've seen at least 4 sizes and shapes available.

1 4300MAh
2 4400MAh (similar with the dead one that I have)
3 1900 MAh
4 1900 MAh
1 and 3 are too bulky for their capacity. I like most the last one because it's very small but I wonder what is the runtime with that.

Re: X41 Battery problem
I've found the specs for normal/extended batery:
Battery: 2.5 hr (4-cell)
5.7 hr (8-cell)
Can anyone confirm that practical times are like that.
Reading the forum I noticed that some x40/41 have problems at the charging circuit, I hope mine is ok, the ebay seller is very highly rated.

Re: X41 Battery problem
I can't tell exactly from the pictures, but the 2nd and the 4th are probably what you're looking for.
The 1st and the 3rd are for the tablet model, and the main batteries for the tablet and non-tablet models are not inter-changeable.
From my experience, actual battery life is usually around 70-80% of manufacturer's claim in a young battery. As you may know it really depends on how the box is being pushed (e.g. movie, wireless, crunching numbers...) so YMMV.
Besides, I've found finding a good OEM/3rd-party battery kind of difficult as one cannot tell the quality from the outlook, and performance after prolonged use may vary significantly. And there happens to be a thread discussing this here (http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=73718) which you may like to check out.
Of course you can get one from Lenovo directly (I presume they are still selling them) at a higher price.
Cheers.

Re: X41 Battery problem
Thank you.
You are right, if I look closely at the pictures I can see that 1st and the 3rd are a little diffrent. I ordered a small one from an e-bay seller (from Hong Kong but very highly rated).
L.E. I added notes on the picture.

Re: X41 Battery problem
My battery has not arrived yet and the paypal dispute needs to be closed or escalated to a claim. I don't know what to do.
When I unplug it after it has booted in windows It begins to beep and lasts 1.5 minutes on the old battery. Can anyone confirm me that the mainboard is ok and it is just a battery problem.
Please I need a fast answer.

Re: X41 Battery problem
My battery arrived today and my x41 is working just fine. After a discharge/recharge cycle windows reports 3:15 hours when left in idle (everything on, brightness at half). I couldn't be more happy, the x41 is a wonderful machine (as every T and X from IBM).
Thank you all for your help. Topic closed.

Re: X41 Battery problem
Glad it worked for you, mind to share more information about the battery (you can find in Power Manager) and the vendor?
Cheers.
Cheers.
Re: X41 Battery problem
Sure, no problem. Here are some screenshots. I don't know if I'm allowed to post the vendor's name (advertising on forum) but if anyone is intrested I'll send a PM.
