Bad Pixel

#1 Post by bpsss » Wed Feb 02, 2005 12:20 pm

I have just received a new T42 SXGA+ model and I am not sure whether I have a dodgy pixel. If I have a blue background it appears as a white dot in the middle of the screen. If i hover over it with the mouse, a grey rectangular box appears with a small sliding scale......in IBM speak does this identify a bad pixel?

If you press the middle "mouse" button, does it go away?

When you start your thinkpad, when there is the ibm logo and black background, do you see this dead pixel? If you don't then it's not a dead pixel but a software bug. Try the suggestion of Leon to see if it goes away.

Do what Leon suggests, press the middle trackpad button and see if it disappears.

there is a small utility that will locate stuck on and/or dead pixels..

i suggest that unless you see a red dot staring at you from an otherwise black background you leave well enough alone.. :)

a customer who wanted a perfect display got one but only after going through several thinkpads..
and the shipping to and fro..

in fact, i use one of his rejects and i am very picky with stuck on pixels..
to my eye this display is perfect and the one dead sub pixel is not apparent at all.. ever.. even when i look for it..

other blemishes on the display can be "artifacts" that are left over from a badly wriotten app or a slowly crashing OS or video driver..

or a dust speck..
