Last 4:3 Panasonic Y8 model is over

#1 Post by Puppy » Fri Jun 05, 2009 6:26 pm

It seems as the last notebook with 4:3 screen in production - Panasonic Y8 is no longer available. There are widescreen models only - R.I.P.

Hmmm...that's Y-series, ultralight. However, business-rugged (middle class) CF-52 and CF-74 are still available with 13.3" XGA LCD with an insane 1000-nit brightness...

- 15.4" widescreen
- Optional 13.3" XGA 1000nit touchscreen LCD

The question is how long the optional configuration will be available. Also 13.3" XGA is pretty useless resolution.

Yeah. I'd rather have SXGA (1280x960 or 1280x1024) on a 13.3". My ideal ultraportable would be 12.1" 4:3 with XGA+ (1152x864). Gives you roughly the same total space as WXGA, and more vertical space, which I find more important. More than that, and the DPI would be too high for my liking...

Nah, you will get 1024x576, that's what you need.

I think that's also about 8 lbs and $2500 ...

Well, CF-74 is just under 6lbs...

And there's nothing wrong in paying a proper price for a high-quality product...like we used to for ThinkPads...

Depending on which one you'd be interested in...we can meet up one day, I've got quite a few of them at work...

That would be great :thumbs-UP: I'm partial to the business-rugged line. I'm traveling this week, but will send you a PM when I'm back.

Hmmm...business-rugged is not something that is easily found in an utility company...I'll check what the bosses still have sitting around, I remember seeing CF-72/73, but these are fairly old now...and a far cry from sleekness of Y5/Y7...

Where were you when I still had a Y5... :?
