Windows 7 Upgrade Edition.

#1 Post by CRAZYBUBBA » Sun Jun 07, 2009 9:32 pm

Hello. Does anyone know if MS will sell a Windows 7 "upgrade" edition for users who wish to go from Win Xp to Win 7?

I'm interested to know if they do this for every release or only major releases.

Thanks in advance.

There probably will not be a direct way to do this. The upgrade will not migrate your files from XP.

Thansk for the reply. Actually I'm not worried about migrating files, I can easily do a backup. What I was wondering was if I could but the upgrade edition of Windows 7 and use that to update my system? If I would have to buy the "full" edition I'd rather just buy a new computer.

Yeah, the upgrade version of windows 7 will work on an XP system, but as the above poster stated, it can only do a in place upgrade from Vista. You will need to do a clean install from XP (though that is usually the best way to go anyways).
