Networking Disaster (aka "I am an Idiot")
Networking Disaster (aka "I am an Idiot")
HELP!
I just bought a certified used T40 (2374, WinXP), because I have to hand in my old T23 (2647, Win2000) at work. The T40 worked great right out of the box, then XP SP2 fouled up the wireless networking. I updated Access Connections and eventually got everything working fine.
(Here comes the idiot part.)
To get some files off my the T23 and put them on the T40, I networked them through a Netgear MR314--it's a wireless router, but I just used the ethernet connections.
(Almost here now.)
I was having problems getting the WinXP T40 and the Win2000 T23 to see each other on the LAN, and in my haste and foolishness, I wound up making a number of configuration changes--and I don't remember what I did.
(POW!)
I was able to move the files over, but now the WinXP T40 wireless connections are completely fouled up, and I've given up hope.
I want to roll everything back to the initial out-of-the-box state, and take it from there. However, I'm not sure how to do that, and at this point I know I need to get some good advice before I start messing around.
Any suggestions? Many thanks--

Thanks, Leon. Unfortunately, when I try to uninstall Access Connections, the system won't let me:
Control Panel > Add Or Remove Programs > Access IBM Tools > Change Or Remove > Select "IBM Access Connections" from the list > Remove > "Do you really want to...?" > "Yes" > Install Wizard starts and freezes > Error message: "An installation support file could not be installed. The system cannot find the file specified"
Any thoughts?

I'll give that a shot--thanks.Leon wrote:p.s. your not "an idiot"..... what you did is logical and should not have screwed things up......
And I appreciate the support, but considering I've had this machine perfectly configured and fouled it up not once but twice in less than two weeks, I'm feeling reasonably idiotic
How's that old poem go? "A little learning is a dangerous thing..."
Apparently, I know just enough to be dangerous. Thanks again--will let you know how it goes.
