Clean Install with SP2 Preloaded
Clean Install with SP2 Preloaded
My new 2378 came preloaded with SP2. I read, re-read UCI Mech sticky post with all the forum posts about clean install. No where did I read about instructions for clean install with preloaded SP2. I skipped step 7 Integration of SP1 or SP2. And followed all the rest. The CD was burned fine. When I tried to install, it asks for Disk with SP2 to be loaded.
What did I do wrong? Should I just go ahead and download the SP2 package from Microsoft and integrate it anyway, even if my i386 has SP2 already on it?
TIA

I'm not sure, but you might be missing a file by not integrating SP2:

I doubt you're missing any physical data if SP2 is already included in i386, but you're probably missing the SP2 identifier file that bcd needs.

Glad I could help - I vaguely remembered seeing that warning on step 7 when making my own SP2 build.treker wrote:Kenn,
I went ahead and integrated SP2 and all seems proper now. I am burning a new CD right now and will try to install it shortly.
Thanks. I think I will recommend UCI Mech ammend his EXCELLENT sticky with the instructions to go ahead and integrate SP2 even though you have it preloaded.
The integration process replaces old files with new SP2 ones (I imagine even ones that used to be SP2), so it generally should not have an additive effect on the CD (beyond what placing SP2 on a non-SP2 build would give). I hope it works out.
I think that is an excellent suggestion to make for the guide. Additionally, I suspect that including that small SP2 file present should be enough to bypass the "insert disc" message without having to reintegrate SP2, but I guess that's a test for another day!

Kenn,
Works GREAT. So, anyone with SP2 preloaded should just go ahead and integrate SP2 anyway. Or UCI Mech could add that little file (1kb) for download to his sticky. Then preloaded folks could install it, thereby skipping that step.
I am a happy camper. I have a nice clean XP Pro SP2 ready for clean install.
I have my unattended.txt Key Product Number ready just in case it works. Of course, I have my Key Product Number from the Microsoft sticker, too.
This is a WONDERFUL HELPFUL fourm.
