Adding a second hard drive myself

#1 Post by 2cdneh » Wed Jun 10, 2009 11:26 pm

I ordered a W70 during the big sale a couple of days ago, and forgot to order a second drive. How hard is it to add? Do I need to order a carrier? If so, from where? I don't want raid, only going to put SQL server files on the second drive.

What would my best choice for a fast drive?

W700 Hardware Maintenance Manual. You'll probably need a caddy unless they gave you one. They're pretty cheap on eBay. I think I paid $7 for mine. The fastest mechanical drive right now is the Seagate 7200.4 unless you want a SSD.

By accident you probably saved yourself some money. You will need both the metal caddy and the rubber rails. I ordered mine from newmodus one of the banner ad sponsors on this site.

I ordered mine with dual hard drives since I didn't want to have to worry about setting up RAID 1 myself, but that was silly. Setting up RAID1 would have been easy. Your situation is even easier. Order the Seagate drives.

Here's a link to the caddy you will need: http://newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?mai ... f37afc0c35
