T30 without screen won't start

#1 Post by AlphaCentaury » Thu Jun 11, 2009 6:04 pm

Hi,

I have reassembled a T30 with an old motherboard I bought with some parts for cheap. I plugged working screen and cable. When I start the computer, I get the traditionnal CPU fan acceleration and everythings switches off nearly instantly. But if I plug the VGA cable, it boots fine on an external screen. But if I unplug the screen, or if I try to switch to the second screen, everythings switches off instantly (from BIOS or from Windows).

What do I want to do with this machine: getting rid of the screen and the bezel, plug the base to a TV (VGA or S-Video) and leave the machine on the table. I don't want to get it fixed to work with the original screen, I just want it to be able to boot and to keep the system on, no matter if there is a screen attached or not.

My questions are: does a working screen have to be detected to start the machine? Is there any way to overide this problem by configurtation? Or any way to get the VGA port think there is a screen electrically?

Note: My other thread about heating issues is about a second T30 (from which I boworred the screen).

Thank you!

You should not need an internal LCD to start the machine. Set the Video to boot to VGA in BIOS configuration. If that does not work, you've some other as yet unidentified issue, probably with the systemboard.

I'm a little late... but thank you for your answer. The systemboard didn't worked in the end.
