How To Disable Tap as click??

#1 Post by CallDon » Fri Jun 12, 2009 8:12 pm

Just bought a refurb T43 and I love it. But one thing would prevent me from buying another. Everytime I put my finger down on the touchpad, it acts as if I am clicking the left mouse button. VERY ANNOYING!

I use the touchpad all the time. But I always disable any auto-click function like this. In the control panel, there is no untility for the touchpad, just for the mouse!

How can I disable that? It is driving me crazy.

Thanks so much!

Go to the ultranav software, I believe you can disable click to select.

First check Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and see which of these are missing:
UltraNav Driver
UltraNav Utility
UltraNav Wizard

Then download and install the missing ones from here:

There were no ultraNav programs on my computer. So I went to the site, downloaded the three files, installed them and rebooted.

Nothing.

So I did it again. Still, it is not in the add/remove programs and not in the All Programs. I did a search on the "C" drive and nothing under UltraNav. Any suggestions?

When you clicked on each file and thought you were installing them, you were only extracting them to C:\DRIVERS\WIN. Go the that folder, find each extracted file and run the setup.exe file for each. You do not need to reboot until all three have been installed.

Thanks John. That did it. Funny thing is, after using the TrackPoint for a couple of days, I got used to it. Now I see why you guys like it so much. Very convenient, easy to use and accurate.

Since this is a refurb laptop, they may have reloaded XP but not the IBM special programs like Ultranav. Thanks for the help with the UltraNav.

Glad it worked. You might install the other missing drivers.

I find the Trackpoint is most convienent when the computer is on the lap. The touchpad best when it is on a desk.

Two questions:
1) How do I know what drivers are missing? Or is it necessary to know until I need them?

2) I have tried to connect an Acer monitor to the vga port with no success. When i plug my other laptops in, it just works. With this one, nothing happens.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

1)

Install the ThinkVantage System Update (TVSU):
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... PDATE.html

It will scan your system and display a list of drivers/utilities applicable to your machine. Then you can select the ones you are interested in and it will download and install them.
