Hello everyone. i am looking to upgrade my ram but not 100% sure which one to buy. Can anyone tell me what i need? I have listed my system details below....its a T60.
Front side bus properties
Bus type...Intel AGTL+
Bus width....64 bit
Real clock....167 MHz
Effective clock....667 MHz
Bandwidth.......5332MB/s
memory bus properties
bus type.......DDR2 SDRAM
BUS width.....64 bit
REAL CLOCK...333MHz (DDR)
Effective clock......667MHz
Bandwidth.......5333MB/s
Would appreciate any advice.
Also...is there much difference between running 2gb of ram and 3 GB? I currently have just 1GB and plan to fill my empty second slot....but dont really know if its worth throwing a 2GB stick in there or just 1GB. I dont do anything overly intensive...I just seem to be going through a phase at the monet and want to upgrade and tinker around with my thinkpads.
thanks in advance

Re: a ram conundrum
here is my very favorite T60/T60p RAM set (I removed all of the existing RAM and resold on ebay)
this upgrade enables dual channel, and seemed to make my T60 just take off like a rocket!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231154
this RAM is the exact type of RAM that is correct for yours and ALL T60 or T60p
specs:
Brand --> G.SKILL
Model --> F2-5300CL4D-4GBSQ
Type --> 200-Pin DDR2 SODIMM
Capacity --> 4GB (2 x 2GB)
Speed --> DDR2 667 (PC2 5300)
Cas Latency --> 4
Timing --> 4-4-4-12
Voltage --> 1.8V
ECC --> No
Buffered/Registered --> Unbuffered
RAM is cheap here in USA, and I know it is 4GB and maybe only 3.2GB or so is actually usable due to Santa Rosa chipset limitation, but I like having a matched pair of 2GB modules CL4 from G.Skill - the most reliable brand of RAM in the world (as documented by newegg.com user reviews, and newegg is the world's largest computer store)
this is the Lexus/Ferrari of T60 RAM upgrades, and only about US$55, seems like a great bargain to me, compared to other T60 upgrades I have done (fancy sound card, Core 2 Duo CPU, 320MB 7200rpm hard drive, etc.)
I believe this is the best RAM in the world at any price, I love it, I was even able to turn off all XP paging files and I also run 64-bit Linux and 64-bit Windows 7, triple boot (I also upgraded my T60 to Core 2 Duo CPU so I could utilize 64 bit OS)
I also frequently have about 20 tabs open in Firefox when web surfing!
never a slowdown now!
To me, RAM is the most important part of the computer, due to system stability, so I spare no expense, I go for the best in the world, then I never have a RAM problem or blue screen!

Re: a ram conundrum
It is Napa chipset (or Centrino platform) which has the 3GB memory limitation, not Santa Rosa. T60/p has Napa chipset, not Santa Rosa which is avaible in T60/p's successor T61/p.wild_bill wrote: ..., and I know it is 4GB and maybe only 3.2GB or so is actually usable due to Santa Rosa chipset limitation, ....
For more information about the generations of intel's Centrino platform/chipset, click here.
My favouritePad is X61. My eBay feedback is here.
My next goal of upgrading my super X61 is: XGA -> SXGA+

Holy cow man....looks like you are deadly serious about ram. I appreciate that link you sent but honestly dont think i can justify turning my laptop into a seething black slab of raw power like you have done. Man i reckon your laptop floats around the house while you are sleeping.wild_bill wrote:To me, RAM is the most important part of the computer, due to system stability, so I spare no expense, I go for the best in the world, then I never have a RAM problem or blue screen!
I got the ram spec info from the link you sent though so cheers for that. I may still do what you suggest and clear out my existing ram and replace it with 2 sticks of high quality 2GB....although its probably something for the future. I gotta curb spending too much of my dosh on thinkpad bits so i will probably pick up a used ram stick on ebay for around 10 bucks
cheers.
