I need to buy R40 motherboard, need help about types

#1 Post by K-a-M-u-Z-u » Sun Jun 14, 2009 5:15 am

Hi.
recently i tried to repair my thinkpad r40 2722-bdg fan that began to do some noises, accidentally i have pulled the connection between the fan and the motherboard. i have tried to repair it by soldering the connection(holding it in place by it worked).but i was not able to repair it.
taking it to a lab will cost more than 200$, so i thought just buying a motherboard on ebay.
i have seen allot of thinkpad r40 systems for parts, the question is if it has to be the exact same model i have had before? 2722-bdg? or can i use any R40 P-M board?

thanks.

Depending on if your old mobo has firewire or not (and/or if you need it or not), and a security chip/card or not, go with the closest match.

Planar for P4/Cel M6 w/o security card, w/o 1394 peak shift 26P8401
Planar for P4/Cel M6 w/ security card, w/o 1394 peak shift 91P7167
Planar for P4/Cel M6 w/o security card, w/ 1394 peak shift 26P8402
Planar for P4 M7 w/ security card, w/ 1394 peak shift 26P8403
Planar for P4 M7 w/ security card, w/o 1394 peak shift 26P8404

Don't know what the M6 or M7 means.

hi.
thanks for the reply.
my laptop is a centrino 1.4 platform(P-M processor) , and the ones you have posted are P4 processor .
*I have firewire on my old board and i do need it(EXTERNAL DVD RECORDER).i think i have a security chip as well, but i'm not sure.maybe someone know according to the model i have specified? i really want the exact same model.

i didnt mentioned that all the onboard cards, cpu, memory and the rest of the hardware are ok, i just need the board and the HEATSINK(fan).
the system is running without the fan, but overheating real fast and shutdown to prevent damage.i can use it with external fan directed on the heatsink but its not really an option...

Thanks.

Don't see any P-Ms in the HMM.
To find out which planar/mobo you have, fill in the data here:

its weird.
in the link you gave me, there is no 2722 type.
i tried to look in http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 45953.html for system parts fot the r40, and there are no 2722-bdg system and the boards over there are P4/
but in this page:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ry=2722BDG
the computer is listed.so there is a P-M and a 2722 type.
but i couldnt find the board type.

HMM, page 155, under 17:

http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... 3n6183.pdf

Ban means the planar that was meant for a PM Banias CPU, which is what you have.

Good luck.
